When the brake pedal on an Edge or MKX goes stiff and the car takes longer to stop, the booster has usually lost its vacuum seal. This Ford Edge brake booster is a single diaphragm vacuum unit for the 2011-2014 Ford Edge and the 2011-2015 Lincoln MKX with the 2.0L, 3.5L or 3.7L engine. It comes without the master cylinder.

Fitting notes

A booster can't be serviced, so once it fails it has to be replaced. On the 2.0L EcoBoost, check the brake vacuum pump too, as a weak pump gives the same hard pedal. Wikipedia explains the vacuum servo in simple terms.
