Peterbilt Parts for Sale
This page lists the Peterbilt parts we sell. The current range is headlight assemblies: chrome LED headlights for the 2005-2016 Peterbilt 386, and a headlight pair for the 2022 and later Peterbilt 579. Both can be ordered online from this page, and each product page lists the model, years and what is included.
Peterbilt trucks are known for their looks, and the headlights are a big part of that. They are also exposed to stones, weather and vibration on every run. A cracked, cloudy or water-filled headlight reduces how far you can see at night and can fail a roadside inspection. A new assembly fixes both the look and the light.
Below are the parts with their specs, how to choose the right lamp, fitting and aiming tips, care advice and answers to frequent questions.
Peterbilt Parts in Stock

For other heavy truck parts, see commercial truck parts and diesel truck parts.
Choosing the Right Peterbilt Headlight
- Model. The 386 and 579 have very different front ends, and their headlights are not interchangeable. The 384 and 387 also use their own lamps.
- Year. The 579 was updated over its life. Our pair is for 2022 and later trucks, so check the front of your truck against the product photos.
- LED or halogen. LED lamps give a whiter light and last longer. Halogen lamps cost less and use replaceable bulbs.
- Finish. Chrome suits the classic look of the 386. Check the photos for the finish you want.
- Road approval. Make sure the lamp meets the rules where your truck is registered, such as DOT/SAE in North America or ECE marks in many other regions.
Fitting and Aiming
- Park on level ground, set the brakes and tilt the hood if needed to reach the lamp mounts.
- Unplug the wiring and remove the mounting hardware.
- Fit the new lamp and reconnect the wiring. Use dielectric grease on the connectors.
- Test low beam, high beam, signals and marker lights.
- Aim the lamps against a wall on level ground so the low beam cut-off sits just below lamp centre height, following your truck and country specifications.
For the history of the company and its models, the Peterbilt article on Wikipedia is a good read.
Care Tips
- Clean the lenses with mild soap and water at every pre-trip check.
- Polish chrome housings with a non-abrasive chrome cleaner to keep them bright.
- Watch for condensation that does not clear, which means a failed seal.
- Check that mounts are tight, because vibration loosens them over time.

Peterbilt Models and Their Headlights
Peterbilt, part of PACCAR, builds trucks with a strong following among owner-operators and fleets alike. Its range includes classic long-hood conventionals like the 389 and 379, mid-length models like the 386 and 384, the aerodynamic 579, and vocational trucks like the 567 and 367. Each model, and often each generation, uses its own headlights. The 386 and 384 share a family resemblance, and our black headlights for the 2008-2013 Peterbilt 325, 384 and 386 cover several models from that period. The Peterbilt 386 chrome LED headlights fit 2005-2016 trucks, and the Peterbilt 579 headlights pair fits 2022 and newer 579s, which received an updated front end. Always check your model and year, and compare the shape of your existing headlight with our photos, before ordering.
Chrome, Black and LED Options
Peterbilt owners often care about appearance as much as function. Chrome headlight housings suit the classic Peterbilt look with chrome bumpers, visors and stacks. Black housings give a modern, blacked-out look. LED headlights combine a modern appearance with brighter, whiter light and long life. When you choose, think about how the lights will match the rest of your truck, and remember that both lamps should match. If you change one side to LED and leave halogen on the other, the colour and brightness will look uneven.
The Benefits of LED for Long-Haul Trucks
- Less downtime: LED light sources can last many times longer than halogen bulbs, so you replace them far less often.
- Lower power draw: LEDs use less current, which reduces load on the alternator and wiring.
- Better visibility: a whiter light with a sharp cut-off helps you see the road edges and signs at night.
- Vibration resistance: LEDs have no fragile filament, so they cope better with rough roads and vibration.
Check that any LED headlight is approved for road use where you drive, and that it plugs into your harness without modification.
Signs Your Headlights Need Replacing
- The lenses are yellow, cloudy or pitted, and light output has dropped.
- There is water or condensation inside the lamp that does not clear.
- The lens is cracked or the housing is broken.
- The reflector inside has turned dull or flaked, which ruins the beam pattern.
- Bulbs keep failing early, which can point to moisture or a damaged housing.
Fitting Tips for Peterbilt Headlights
On many Peterbilt models, the headlights mount in the fender or in a bracket on the hood. Work with the truck parked, the engine off and the lights switched off. Support the hood or fender if needed, unplug the lamp, remove the fasteners and lift the lamp out. Before fitting the new lamp, check the connector and the wires for corrosion and clean them with contact cleaner. A little dielectric grease on the connector helps keep moisture out. After fitting, test low and high beams and aim the headlights on level ground.
Aiming Headlights
Proper aim is as important as brightness. A headlight aimed too high dazzles oncoming drivers and reflects off road signs; one aimed too low leaves you short of light at highway speed. Use the adjuster screws on the lamp and follow the aiming procedure in your service manual, or have a workshop use an aiming tool. Check the aim again after major suspension or cab work, since cab height affects the beam.
Air Filters and Other Service Parts
Many Peterbilt trucks share heavy-duty air filters with other brands. Our LAF4816 / AF25247 heavy-duty air filter lists Peterbilt among its applications. Check the dimensions and the part number against your current filter, because filter housings vary with engine and model. Replace the filter when the restriction indicator says so, and keep the housing seals clean.
Keeping a Classic Peterbilt Looking Right
Many Peterbilt owners keep their trucks for years and take pride in their appearance. Keep chrome parts clean with a non-abrasive chrome polish, rinse off road salt promptly in winter, and avoid strong acid wheel cleaners near headlight lenses and seals. Replace faded lenses and cracked trim before they spoil the look, and match finishes so chrome parts sit alongside chrome.

The Peterbilt 389 and 379
The 379 was Peterbilt's flagship long-hood conventional for many years and is still one of the most recognisable trucks on the road. The 389 replaced it in the late 2000s, keeping the classic look with an updated hood and lights. Both have a loyal following among owner-operators who customise them with chrome, lights and paint. Headlights for these trucks come in several styles, from rectangular sealed beams on older trucks to modern projector and LED assemblies. Because the 379 and 389 use different headlights, check which model you have and compare the headlight shape with our photos before ordering.
The 386, 384 and 325
The 386 is a mid-length conventional that suited both highway and regional work. The 384 is a slightly shorter, lighter model, and the 325 and 330 are medium-duty trucks. Several of these trucks share headlight designs in certain years, which is why our black headlights for the 2008-2013 Peterbilt 325, 384 and 386 cover all three. The 386 chrome LED headlights cover a wider year range for the 386.
The 579 and 567
The 579 is Peterbilt's aerodynamic highway truck, designed to compete on fuel economy. It received updates over its life, including a revised front end with new headlights for later models; our 579 headlights pair fits 2022 and newer trucks. The 567 is the vocational counterpart, built for dump, mixer and heavy-haul work, with its own headlights. Check whether your 579 is an early or late model before ordering lights, because the front ends differ.
Upgrading to LED on a Classic Peterbilt
Many owners of older Peterbilts upgrade from halogen to LED headlights for better visibility at night and fewer bulb replacements. Before you buy, check:
- The headlight size and shape, which must match your bucket or housing.
- The connector type, so the lamp plugs in without cutting wires.
- Road approval markings for your country or state.
- Whether your dash shows a lamp-out warning with LED loads.
- The beam pattern, so the light is focused on the road and not into oncoming traffic.
Upgrade both sides at the same time so the colour and brightness match.
Air Filters and Engine Service
Peterbilt trucks use PACCAR and Cummins engines, and earlier trucks used Caterpillar and Detroit engines. Each engine has its own filters and service parts. For many Peterbilt applications, our LAF4816 / AF25247 air filter is a direct replacement. Check the filter dimensions and part number before ordering, because air cleaner housings vary.
More Questions About Peterbilt Parts
Will the 386 LED headlights fit my 389?
No. The 389 uses different headlights. Check the listed models on each product.
How do I know which 579 headlights I need?
Later 579 trucks have a redesigned front end. Our 579 pair is for 2022 and newer trucks; compare your lamp shape with the photos.
Are chrome and black headlights the same apart from colour?
Usually the fitment is the same, but always check the listing, because some designs differ in the reflector or light source too.
Can I replace one headlight only?
Yes, but if the other side is faded, replacing both gives even lighting and a matching look.
Do you supply 379 parts?
Send us your part number through our request a part page and we will check what we can source.
Peterbilt Lighting Beyond Headlights
A Peterbilt's front end often carries more than headlights. Fog lights, turn signals, cab marker lights, visor lights and bumper lights all add to safety and appearance. Many owners upgrade these to LED at the same time as the headlights for a consistent look and fewer bulb changes. Make sure every light meets road rules for colour and placement where you drive; amber is used for front markers and turn signals in most regions, while red is reserved for the rear. Clearance and identification lights are legal requirements on large trucks in many countries.
Owner-Operator Tips
- Keep a small lighting kit in the truck: spare bulbs, fuses, dielectric grease and electrical tape.
- Check all lights at every pre-trip inspection, not just the headlights.
- Replace faded headlights in pairs for even light and a matching look.
- Clean connectors when you replace a lamp to prevent repeat failures.
- Keep receipts and part numbers in a folder in the truck for quick reordering.
Cab-Over and Medium-Duty Peterbilts
Peterbilt's medium-duty trucks, such as the 220, 325, 330, 337 and 348, are common in delivery and vocational work. Some share headlights with larger models from the same period; our black headlights for the 325, 384 and 386 are an example. Check the model and year range before ordering.
Protecting Chrome and Stainless Trim
Peterbilts are known for their chrome and stainless trim. Clean with a gentle truck wash and a soft mitt, dry to avoid water spots, and polish with a non-abrasive metal polish. In winter, rinse off road salt as soon as possible, because salt pits chrome over time. Avoid acid-based wheel and bug cleaners on chrome headlight housings and lenses.
Ordering Large Truck Lights
Truck headlights are large and need careful packing. Check the box on delivery and report any damage straight away. Keep the lamp in its packaging until you are ready to fit it, and check that it matches your old lamp before removing the old one. See our shipping page for delivery options to your country.
The Peterbilt 567 and Vocational Work
The 567 is Peterbilt's vocational truck, built for dump, mixer, refuse, logging and heavy-haul work. It shares some cab and interior parts with the 579 but has its own hood, bumper and lighting suited to rough job sites. Vocational trucks take a beating at the front from stones, mud and vibration, so headlights and their mounts need regular checks. LED headlights cope better with vibration than halogen bulbs, which makes them a popular upgrade for vocational Peterbilts.

Why We List Year Ranges
Peterbilt made running changes to many models over their production life. A headlight for an early 386 may differ from one for a late 386, and the 579 changed its front end for later models. That is why our listings include year ranges. If your truck was built near the start or end of a range, compare your headlight carefully with our photos, or send us your part number.

Night Driving and Headlight Performance
Many owner-operators and fleet drivers spend long hours on the road at night. Good headlights do more than meet the rules; they reduce eye strain, help you see road edges, signs and hazards earlier, and make the long hours less tiring. If you notice that you are leaning forward to see the road, or that your headlights look yellow compared with other trucks, it may be time for new lamps. Replacing both sides at once gives an even beam, and LED lamps can offer a clear, white light with long life.
Combining Function and Style
Peterbilt owners take pride in their trucks, and lighting is a big part of the look. Chrome headlight housings complement chrome bumpers, grille surrounds and visors, while black housings suit a modern, blacked-out style. Whatever you choose, keep the finish consistent across the front of the truck, and match both sides. A clean, well-lit front end makes a strong impression at truck stops, shows and on the road.
