1964-1966 Mustang Disc Brake Conversion Kit, 6 Cylinder, 5 Lug

Early six-cylinder Mustangs left the factory with small four-lug drum brakes. This Mustang disc brake conversion kit puts front disc brakes on a 1964-1966 six-cylinder car using your original spindles, and moves you to a 5 on 4.5 in bolt pattern at the same time, which opens up a much wider choice of wheels.

What's in the Mustang disc brake conversion kit

• 2 rotors, 5 on 4.5 in bolt pattern
• 2 loaded calipers with pads
• Hardware kit: wheel bearings, seals, rubber brake hoses and mounting bolts

Fit

• Ford Mustang 1964-1966 with six-cylinder, 4-lug spindles

The kit keeps your stock six-cylinder spindle. V8 cars use a different setup.

What else you'll need

Because the front axle changes to 5-lug, the rear axle needs to match so the car can run one wheel size all round. Front discs with rear drums also need a proportioning valve to keep the rear wheels from locking up first. A power booster such as the Thunderbird booster kit isn't required, but many owners add one. Wikipedia's disc brake page explains why discs stop better than drums once they get hot.
