Mercedes ML, GL and R-Class Tailgate Lock Actuator 1647400300

This Mercedes tailgate lock actuator is the rear liftgate latch and motor for the W164 M-Class, X164 GL-Class and W251 R-Class, OE 164 740 03 00. When the tailgate will not open with the button or remote, will not stay shut, or the soft-close stops working, this actuator is a common cause.

Some 2006-2007 ML models are split by chassis number (through A 227439, built through 01/17/07). Check your chassis number and the part number on your old latch.

Fitting

Remove the inner tailgate trim panel, unplug the connector and undo the latch bolts. Test the new actuator with the tailgate open before closing it, so you do not lock it shut. See the central locking article on Wikipedia for background.
